Angle Bag Head-to-Body Combination

The Angle Bag Head-to-Body Combination pairs a head-height straight punch with a body hook. It develops punch coordination, level changes, and controlled rotation through your trunk.

How to do it

  1. Take a staggered boxing stance within punching range, with your lead foot forward and gloves beside your cheeks.
  2. Throw a rear-hand straight punch at the bag’s head-height target.
  3. Return your rear glove to your cheek.
  4. Bend your knees slightly to lower yourself toward the body target.
  5. Throw a compact lead-hand hook into the lower angled target using rotation from your hips.
  6. Return your lead glove to your cheek.
  7. Rise back into your starting stance.

Form cues

  • Keep your chin tucked.
  • Let your heels turn with your hips.
  • Exhale briefly with each punch.
  • Keep your eyes on the target.

Common mistakes

  • Folding at the waistKeep your chest upright as you change levels rather than dipping your head toward the bag.
  • Looping the body hookKeep your elbow bent so the hook follows a short path instead of swinging from far outside.
  • Reaching after the bagReset your distance between combinations rather than leaning forward to catch a moving target.
  • Bent wrist at impactAlign your fist with your forearm so your wrist stays straight when the glove contacts the bag.

Safety

Hard impacts with poor alignment can injure your hands or wrists and strain your elbows or shoulders. A rebounding bag can strike you or disrupt your balance when you crowd it.

  • Use properly fitted hand wraps and boxing training gloves.
  • Check the bag’s attachment, surface, and surrounding swing clearance before starting.
  • Begin with light contact; increase force only while each punch stays controlled.
  • Pause when the bag swings heavily, letting it settle without grabbing it.

If you have hand, wrist, elbow, or shoulder pain, use pain-free shadowboxing instead of bag contact and seek advice from a physiotherapist before resuming impacts.
