Aquatic Mogul Jump

The aquatic mogul jump is a two-foot pool jump that shifts your legs from side to side beneath a relatively centered torso. It trains leg strength, side-to-side control, and conditioning.

  • Compound
  • Moderate injury risk
  • Rest 45 sec

How to do it

  1. Stand with your feet together in waist- to chest-deep water.
  2. Bend your hips and knees slightly.
  3. Push off both feet, directing your legs together a short distance to one side.
  4. Land on both feet with your knees bent.
  5. Reverse direction for your next jump.

Form cues

  • Keep your chest facing forward.
  • Keep your torso near the center.
  • Point your knees over your toes.

Common mistakes

  • Jumping too far sidewaysShorten the sideways distance until you can land without stumbling.
  • Feet separatingSlow the rhythm until your feet move as a pair.
  • Twisting through the lower backShift your legs sideways rather than wrenching your waist to change direction.

Safety

A slippery pool floor or an uncontrolled landing can cause a fall or strain your ankles or knees. Water reduces impact but does not eliminate landing forces.

  • Use a supervised pool area where you can stand comfortably with your head above water.
  • Check the floor for reliable traction before starting.
  • Leave enough space from walls and other swimmers for sideways movement.
  • End the set when fatigue makes your landings unstable.

If you have ankle, knee, or back pain, or difficulty balancing in water, choose gentle water marching or seek advice from a physiotherapist before jumping.
