Band Ankle Eversion

Band ankle eversion strengthens the muscles that stabilize the outside of your ankle by tilting your foot outward against resistance while your lower leg stays still.

  • Beginner
  • Isolation
  • Low injury risk
  • Rest 1 min

How to do it

  1. Sit with your working leg extended in front of you, heel supported on the floor.
  2. Secure a resistance band to a low anchor on the inner side of your working foot.
  3. Loop the band around your forefoot, just behind your toes, with light tension when your foot is neutral.
  4. Tilt the sole slightly outward against the band through a small range.
  5. Slowly return your foot to neutral.

Form cues

  • Keep your kneecap facing the ceiling
  • Let your toes stay relaxed
  • Keep your heel planted

Common mistakes

  • Rotating the whole legKeep your thigh and shin still so the movement comes from your ankle.
  • Pointing the toesKeep your foot roughly at a right angle to your shin rather than pressing it forward.
  • Forcing a large rangeStop the outward tilt before you need to shift your leg or lift your heel.

Safety

Too much band tension or forcing the range can irritate the outside of your ankle. A loose anchor or slipping band can snap back toward you.

  • Check the band for tears and test the anchor before starting.
  • Use light resistance until you can control every repetition.
  • Stop if you feel sharp pain or the ankle feels unstable.

If you have a recent ankle sprain, swelling, or recurring ankle instability, ask a physiotherapist or doctor about suitable resistance and range first.
