How to do it
- Lie on your back beneath the leg springs with your head resting on the mat.
- Place one foot in each strap with your knees bent.
- Grip the frame’s upright poles behind your head.
- Extend your legs to a diagonal above the mat.
- Press your straight legs down into the straps to lift your pelvis into a shoulder-supported bridge.
- Lower your spine back onto the mat with control.
- Bend your knees to return to the starting position.
Form cues
- Match the pressure through both feet.
- Keep your ribs from flaring.
- Exhale through the lift.
Common mistakes
- Sagging through the lower backUse a smaller lift that lets your trunk stay supported rather than hanging between your shoulders and feet.
- Swinging into the liftPause after extending your legs so momentum does not carry your pelvis upward.
- Locking the kneesKeep your legs long without pushing your knees backward.
Safety
Loss of spring control or a slipping foot strap can cause your pelvis to drop suddenly, straining your back. Lifting too high can shift pressure onto your neck.
- Have a qualified Pilates instructor select the spring attachment height and tension and supervise this exercise.
- Check that spring clips are closed and foot straps are secure before starting.
- Keep your head still and your weight across your shoulders, not your neck.
- End the set when you can no longer control the spring-assisted return.
If you have neck, back, or shoulder symptoms, ask a physiotherapist or doctor for advice before attempting the lifted version.
