Boxing
Left Boxing Step
The left boxing step moves you sideways without losing your fighting stance. It trains lateral footwork, balance, and coordination for changing position in boxing.

- Compound
- Low injury risk
- Rest 30 sec
How to do it
- Stand in your boxing stance with one foot forward, feet about shoulder-width apart.
- Raise your hands beside your cheeks.
- Step your left foot a short distance to the left.
- Move your right foot left by the same distance, restoring your original stance.
- Finish with your weight balanced between both feet.
Form cues
- Keep your knees soft.
- Tuck your chin slightly.
- Keep breathing as you move.
Common mistakes
- Crossing your feetKeep each foot on its own track rather than letting one pass across the other.
- Leaning sidewaysMove your torso with your hips instead of reaching left with your shoulders.
- Hopping between positionsUse a smooth step-and-follow rhythm rather than lifting both feet off the floor together.
Safety
Rushing or catching a foot on the floor can cause a stumble or ankle twist. Risk increases when fatigue makes your foot placement less controlled.
- Use a level, nonslip surface with enough clear space to your left.
- Practice slowly before increasing speed.
- End the set if your footing becomes unreliable or you feel joint pain.
If you have recurring ankle or knee pain or difficulty balancing, get advice from a physiotherapist before practicing fast footwork.
