How to do it
- Stand with your back toward a wall, feet slightly forward.
- Place the ball between the wall and an upper-back muscle on one side of your spine.
- Lean back enough to keep the ball in place.
- Shift your torso to roll the ball over a small area for the planned time.
- Ease your body away from the wall to release the pressure.
- Remove the ball.
Form cues
- Keep your shoulders relaxed.
- Breathe slowly throughout.
- Move without bouncing.
Common mistakes
- Chasing painful spotsUse comfortable pressure rather than trying to push through tenderness.
- Arching your lower backKeep your ribs stacked over your pelvis as you move.
Safety
Excessive pressure can cause bruising or worsen soreness. Pressing over bones or nearby nerves can cause pain or tingling.
- Keep the ball on muscle, away from your spine, shoulder-blade edges, and neck.
- Avoid bruised, swollen, or irritated areas.
- Stop if you feel sharp or spreading pain, numbness, or tingling.
If you have a recent upper-back injury, surgery, or persistent unexplained pain, ask a physiotherapist or doctor before using the ball.
