Parallel-Bar Peach Basket
The parallel-bar peach basket is a backward circling skill that passes through a piked hang beneath the rails before rising toward support. It trains upper-body strength, body tension, and swing control.
Higher injury risk. Read the safety notes before adding weight.

How to do it
- Start in straight-arm support above the rails.
- Let your hips descend backward from support to initiate the circle.
- Fold at your hips as you travel beneath the rails.
- Carry your feet upward between the rails through the piked hang.
- Open your hips as the circle carries you upward.
- Press through the rails to finish in stable support.
Form cues
- Keep both hands firmly closed.
- Keep your legs together.
- Move smoothly through the bottom.
Common mistakes
- Throwing your head backKeep your head aligned with your upper body rather than using it to initiate rotation.
- Tucking instead of pikingKeep your knees extended so the fold comes from your hips.
- Trying to muscle the riseLet the swing lift your hips before pressing into support rather than pulling early with bent elbows.
Safety
A mistimed circle can place sudden traction on your shoulders or cause contact with the rails. Losing your grip while inverted can cause a serious head or neck injury.
- Practice only with qualified gymnastics instruction and hands-on spotting.
- Secure the bars at an appropriate width with gymnastics landing mats covering the fall area.
- Establish controlled support swings and assisted piked-hang drills before attempting the full circle.
- End practice when grip fatigue or inconsistent timing appears.
If you have shoulder pain, a history of shoulder instability, or wrist symptoms, get advice from a physiotherapist before attempting this skill.
