Spine Corrector Lip Abdominals
Spine Corrector Lip Abdominals is a seated Pilates rollback using the curved barrel for support. It trains abdominal control as you round your spine backward and return upright.
- Beginner
- Isolation
- Low injury risk
- Rest 45 sec
How to do it
- Sit on the lip of the spine corrector with the curved barrel behind you.
- Place your feet flat on the floor, hip-width apart, with your knees bent.
- Reach your arms forward at shoulder height.
- Tip your pelvis backward to begin rounding your lower back.
- Slowly roll your torso backward until your lower back meets the barrel's curve.
- Curl your torso forward to return to upright sitting.
Form cues
- Exhale as you curl up.
- Keep space between chin and chest.
- Let your shoulders stay relaxed.
Common mistakes
- Rocking through the repetitionTake about three seconds to roll back so momentum does not carry you through the movement.
- Pushing hard through the feetKeep foot pressure light rather than driving through your legs to lift your torso.
Safety
Rolling beyond your control can make you slide off the lip or drop backward onto the barrel. Forcing spinal rounding may irritate your lower back.
- Place the spine corrector on a level, nonslip surface.
- Begin with a shallow rollback before increasing your range.
- Keep this version below a full backward extension over the barrel.
- End the set if you cannot return smoothly without assistance.
If spinal rounding causes pain or you have osteoporosis, ask a physiotherapist or doctor about a suitable modification.
