How to do it

  1. Sit sideways on the spine corrector with one hip supported against the rounded section.
  2. Extend your legs out to the opposite side, with your feet staggered on the floor.
  3. Cross your arms over your chest.
  4. Lower your torso sideways over the curve into a comfortable side bend.
  5. Lift your torso sideways until your shoulders return above your hips.

Form cues

  • Exhale as you lift.
  • Keep your neck long.
  • Press both feet into the floor.

Common mistakes

  • Turning toward the ceilingKeep your chest facing forward throughout the movement rather than rotating as you rise.
  • Bouncing out of the bottomPause briefly at the bottom before lifting with a smooth, controlled effort.
  • Shifting across the paddingKeep the same hip contact point instead of sliding your pelvis to help lift your torso.

Safety

Lowering farther than you can control can strain your back, especially as you fatigue. Unstable foot contact or a sliding apparatus can cause a fall off the curve.

  • Place the spine corrector on a level, nonslip surface.
  • Use a setup that allows firm floor contact without improvised foot restraints.
  • Start with a small side bend before increasing your range.
  • End the set if you lose control or feel back pain.

If you have ongoing back pain, a recent spinal injury, or difficulty balancing in the starting position, get guidance from a physiotherapist before attempting this exercise.
