How to do it

  1. Start with small, controlled bounces in the center of the trampoline.
  2. Jump vertically with your arms reaching overhead.
  3. Rotate forward into a tucked somersault with your knees drawn toward your chest.
  4. Extend out of the tuck during the somersault.
  5. Turn halfway around your body's long axis while completing the forward rotation.
  6. Land on both feet in the center, facing opposite your takeoff direction.
  7. Absorb the remaining bounce by bending your knees to come to a stop.

Form cues

  • Keep your chin neutral.
  • Keep your legs together in flight.
  • Find the bed before touchdown.

Common mistakes

  • Throwing yourself forwardPrioritize upward lift at takeoff rather than diving your shoulders toward the bed.
  • Twisting off the bedLeave the trampoline squarely before introducing the twist in the air.
  • Forcing the twist with your headUse the arm and shoulder action taught by your instructor rather than whipping your head sideways.

Safety

Mistimed rotation or twisting can cause a head, neck, or back landing with serious injury. Traveling off-center can also cause a collision with the frame or a fall from the trampoline.

  • Practice only under a qualified trampoline instructor who selects your twist timing and appropriate harness or spotting setup.
  • Build a reliable trampoline front tuck and straight half-turn jump before combining them.
  • Use one jumper at a time on a trampoline with secure frame pads and appropriate surrounding landing protection.
  • End practice when fatigue or disorientation makes your landings inconsistent.

If you have neck or back pain, dizziness, or a recent concussion, get medical advice before attempting this skill.
