Wheeled Resistance Sled Push

The wheeled resistance sled push uses continuous leg drive to move a sled against adjustable resistance. It trains leg strength and conditioning while your trunk and arms hold a steady pushing position.

  • Compound
  • Moderate injury risk
  • Rest 1 min 30 sec

How to do it

  1. Set the sled to your chosen resistance level.
  2. Grip the handles firmly with both hands.
  3. Lean your whole body forward with your feet behind your hips.
  4. Push the sled forward with continuous alternating steps for the planned interval.
  5. Shorten your steps to slow down near the endpoint.
  6. Bring the sled to a complete stop.
  7. Release the handles.

Form cues

  • Brace your belly against the effort.
  • Keep your neck aligned with your back.
  • Breathe steadily through each push.

Common mistakes

  • Taking oversized stridesUse short steps with each foot landing beneath or slightly behind your hips.
  • Pressing repeatedly with your armsKeep your elbows at a steady angle so your legs move the sled.
  • Stalling at excessive resistanceLower the setting until you can maintain a continuous walking rhythm without jerking the handles.

Safety

A wheeled sled can roll into people or objects, and abrupt turns or uneven ground can make it unstable. High resistance combined with fatigue can strain your lower back or shoulders if your position collapses.

  • Check that the handles, wheels, and resistance mechanism are secure and working before starting.
  • Use a flat, manufacturer-approved surface with a clear lane and extra stopping space.
  • Keep your feet clear of the wheels.
  • End the interval if you cannot maintain a stable pushing position.

If pushing aggravates an existing back, shoulder, knee, or Achilles tendon problem, use a lighter setting or ask a physiotherapist for guidance.
