Kickboxing Outside Slip
The Kickboxing Outside Slip moves your head just outside a straight punch using a small leg bend and body turn. This solo drill trains defensive coordination, balance, and controlled head movement.
- Beginner
- Compound
- Low injury risk
- Rest 30 sec
How to do it
- Stand with your left foot forward, feet about shoulder-width apart, and knees slightly bent.
- Raise your hands beside your cheeks with your elbows near your ribs.
- Shift your head slightly right, outside an imagined left jab, using a small knee bend and torso turn.
- Return to your starting stance to complete the repetition.
Form cues
- Keep your chin tucked.
- Watch the imagined opponent's chest.
- Keep your weight between your feet.
Common mistakes
- Slipping too farMove only far enough for the imagined fist to pass beside your head.
- Folding at the waistKeep your torso mostly upright rather than dipping your chest toward the floor.
- Dropping your guardKeep both hands at cheek height throughout the slip.
Safety
Abrupt neck movements or twisting over a planted foot can strain your neck or knee. Practicing against live punches adds head-impact risk that this solo drill does not prepare you to manage.
- Practice without contact in a clear space on a stable, nonslip surface.
- Start slowly before increasing the pace.
- Let your shoulders carry your head sideways instead of jerking your neck.
- End the set if fatigue makes your movement uncontrolled.
If you have neck, back, or knee pain, or ongoing balance problems, get advice from a physiotherapist before practicing.
