Kickboxing Stance Switch
The kickboxing stance switch changes which foot leads using a small hop. It trains footwork, balance, and leg coordination for moving between fighting stances.

- Compound
- Moderate injury risk
- Rest 30 sec
How to do it
- Stand with your feet about hip-width apart, one foot a comfortable step ahead of the other.
- Raise your fists beside your cheeks with your elbows close to your ribs.
- Swap your lead and rear feet with a low hop, keeping each foot in its own forward-backward lane.
- Land softly with bent knees in the opposite stance.
- Settle your weight evenly between your feet to finish the repetition.
Form cues
- Keep your eyes forward.
- Relax your shoulders.
- Breathe easily through each switch.
Common mistakes
- Feet landing too close togetherMaintain a sideways gap between your feet so your stance stays stable.
- Jumping too highUse only enough lift to exchange foot positions without dragging your toes.
- Torso tipping aheadKeep your chest over your hips rather than throwing your upper body into the switch.
Safety
A foot catching or slipping during the switch can twist an ankle or knee. Rushed repetitions and fatigue make awkward landings more likely.
- Practice on a clear, nonslip surface with enough room in front and behind you.
- Begin at a slow pace before adding speed.
- End the set if you stumble or can no longer control your landings.
If hopping causes ankle, knee, or hip discomfort, use a slow stepping switch and seek guidance from a physiotherapist if discomfort persists.
