Speed Bag Lead-Hand Triple Rhythm
Speed Bag Lead-Hand Triple Rhythm is a boxing drill in which you strike with your lead hand after every three rebounds. It develops timing, hand coordination, and shoulder endurance.
- Beginner
- Compound
- Low injury risk
- Rest 30 sec
How to do it
- Adjust the platform so the bag’s widest part is around mouth height.
- Stand facing the bag with your lead-side foot slightly forward.
- Raise your fists to chin height.
- Tap the front of the bag with the little-finger side of your lead fist.
- Circle your lead fist back toward your chin.
- Strike again with the same hand after three platform contacts: back, front, back.
- Repeat this striking pattern for your timed interval.
- Lower your hands to finish the set.
Form cues
- Keep your shoulders relaxed
- Keep your wrist straight
- Breathe steadily
- Keep your rear hand near your cheek
Common mistakes
- Hitting too hardUse soft taps so the bag moves at a pace you can control.
- Making large arm circlesKeep the fist’s loop compact rather than winding up from your shoulder.
- Reaching for the bagMove close enough to make contact with your elbow still bent.
- Rushing the next strikeListen for an even rebound rhythm instead of trying to increase speed.
Safety
Repeated contact can irritate your knuckles or wrist if you hit forcefully or let your wrist bend. A poorly secured platform or swivel can loosen during use.
- Wear snug hand wraps that do not cause tingling or numbness.
- Check the platform mounting and swivel before starting.
- End the set when fatigue makes your arm path difficult to control.
- Let the bag stop moving before adjusting the equipment.
If you have current hand, wrist, or shoulder pain, seek advice from a physiotherapist or doctor before doing repeated bag strikes.
