Speed Bag Alternating Triple Rhythm
Speed Bag Alternating Triple Rhythm uses alternating punches with three rebounds between strikes. It trains hand-eye coordination, timing, and shoulder endurance.
- Intermediate
- Low injury risk
- Rest 45 sec
How to do it
- Adjust the platform so the widest part of the bag is around mouth height.
- Stand facing the bag in a balanced stance with your fists near chin height.
- Strike the lower front of the bag with the little-finger side of one closed fist.
- Allow three platform rebounds: away from you, toward you, and away again.
- Strike the bag with your opposite fist as it returns toward you.
- Repeat the three-rebound pattern with alternating hands for your timed interval.
- Stop striking at the end of the interval.
Form cues
- Keep your hand circles small.
- Keep your wrists straight.
- Relax your shoulders.
- Breathe steadily through the rhythm.
Common mistakes
- Punching too hardUse light contacts so the bag moves at a pace you can follow.
- Sending the bag sidewaysAim through the bag's center so it rebounds along the same front-to-back line.
- Chasing a lost rhythmPause after a mistimed strike instead of reaching for the moving bag.
Safety
Repeated impacts with a bent wrist can irritate your hand or wrist. Continuing through shoulder fatigue can strain the shoulder as your arm position deteriorates.
- Wrap your hands securely without restricting circulation.
- Check that the platform and swivel are secure before starting.
- End the interval when you can no longer maintain controlled contacts.
- Let the bag stop moving before adjusting its height or hardware.
If you have current hand, wrist, elbow, or shoulder pain, get advice from a physiotherapist before doing repeated striking drills.
