Speed Bag Rear-Hand Triple Rhythm
The Speed Bag Rear-Hand Triple Rhythm is a single-hand boxing drill with three bag rebounds between strikes. It develops timing, hand coordination, and shoulder endurance.
- Beginner
- Low injury risk
- Rest 30 sec
How to do it
- Stand facing the bag in a comfortable boxing stance, with your rear-hand side slightly farther from the platform.
- Raise your rear fist in front of the bag, with your other hand near your cheek.
- Tap the front of the bag with the little-finger side of your rear fist.
- Circle your rear fist back into position while the bag contacts the platform three times: away, toward you, away.
- Tap the bag again as it returns from the third platform contact.
- Repeat this rear-hand pattern for the timed interval.
- Stop striking when the interval ends.
Form cues
- Listen for an even three-beat rhythm
- Keep your wrist straight
- Relax your shoulders
- Keep your weight centered
Common mistakes
- Hitting too hardUse light taps so the bag travels at a pace you can follow.
- Making a large arm circleKeep the fist's loop compact rather than swinging from your shoulder.
- Chasing a missed strikeLet the bag settle before restarting instead of reaching after an unpredictable rebound.
Safety
Forceful strikes or continuing through fatigue can irritate your wrist, elbow, or shoulder. A poorly secured platform or swivel can loosen during repeated impacts.
- Check that the platform and swivel are secure before starting.
- Adjust the bag so its widest section is roughly at mouth height.
- Wear snug hand wraps that do not cause tingling or numbness.
- End the interval if you develop pain or can no longer control your arm movement.
If you have an existing wrist, elbow, or shoulder injury, ask a physiotherapist or doctor whether repetitive bag striking is appropriate.
