- Beginner
- Isolation
- Low injury risk
- No rest timer
How to do it
- Stand with your working elbow against your side, bent 90 degrees, with your forearm pointing forward.
- Hold the stick horizontally across your waist with both palms facing up.
- Push the stick toward your working side with your opposite hand so your working forearm rotates outward.
- Pause briefly at the end of your comfortable range.
- Guide your working forearm back to the starting position.
Form cues
- Keep your wrist straight.
- Let your shoulders stay relaxed.
- Move slowly in both directions.
Common mistakes
- Elbow drifting awayPlace a small folded towel between your working elbow and ribs to help maintain contact.
- Turning your torsoKeep your chest facing forward so the movement comes from your shoulder rather than your trunk.
Safety
The stick provides leverage that can push your shoulder beyond its available range, irritating the joint or surrounding tissues.
- Use only gentle pressure from your opposite hand.
- Stop if you feel pain, pinching, or joint pressure.
- Do not brace the stick against your body to force more rotation.
If you have a history of shoulder dislocation, recent shoulder surgery, or persistent shoulder pain, get guidance from a physiotherapist or doctor before trying this drill.
